New Orleans Regional Biosciences Initiative
The center of the New Orleans Region’s growing knowledge-based economy is a 2.4 square mile area in the heart of the downtown medical district where leading medical schools, universities, hospitals, and research institutions are working to advance bio-scientific knowledge for the benefit of all. Assets within this distinct geography include:
- LSU Medical School
- Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine
- Charity School of Nursing
- VA & LSU Hospitals (approved, under development)
- Xavier University and School of Pharmacy
- Delgado Community College/School of Nursing
- New Orleans BioInnovation Center(approved, under development)
- Cancer Research Center(approved, under development)
- Revitalized Canal Street including: multimillion- dollar streetscape and facade improvements, shops, restaurants, extended streetcar line, and housing redevelopment ($17 million in public funds and $100 million in private funds committed investment under development)
- City of New Orleans government offices, Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans Arena, hundreds of businesses, and access to the CBD off the central I-10 corridor
